To be announced, likely Sundays 10am to 11:30 starting February 2026. Class only runs if enough people express interest, so please get in touch!
You can also arrange private lessons or events in the meantime, let’s chat:
I offer private lessons to individuals and groups, customized to your needs. “Hen parties,” team building, holiday one-offs, and more!
This can also be great way to start building confidence if you’re unsure about group classes, or to deep dive into special topics if you’re already experienced in the style.
I’ve helped design choreographies for soloists, taught private groups in my studio or in their own space, and introduced a mom and daughter to their first few moves before committing to a whole term.
What sounds good to you? Email me for rates and availability!

No experience necessary - everyone works at their own pace and level for as long as they like.
Also no special outfit needed for class, just dress comfortably with bare feet or socks. I’ll have hip scarves for you to borrow. Performers will choose a costume option at additional expense.
Term rates are based on $20 per 90 minute class, and depends on how many weeks of classes there are in the term. I sometimes run a “try before you buy” day before each term starts, then you are expected to buy a full term (no drop-ins).
See my class policies on the Questions page:
My strategy is to teach technique and body alignment before attempting choreography, because the moves work differently for each individual. I don’t expect anyone to look just like me when they dance, classes are a journey of self-discovery.
Feet and posture first, then the knees and hips, then upper body and arms, like a layer cake. Finally, we put it all together and add our own flair, like the icing and decorations on top!
Improvisation helps with confidence building at every level, and helps students understand cultural context - this dance is for self expression and celebration! Performance is optional, absolutely no pressure - join our body positive, diverse and supportive community.

Many come to class because it’s a great way to meet people! I started teaching in 2019, shortly after moving to New Plymouth from California.
I will happily consider accommodating students who contact me with their special requests, such as classes for girls and women only, due to cultural sensitivity reasons. (To be clear, that includes trans women and girls!) I prioritize accessibility for Arab women so they are not excluded from their own art form (raqs sharqi = dance of the east).
Whatever your needs are, let me know!
Just a few of my lovely students and collaborators:
MEDANZ attendees at my Vintage American Style workshop, performance of the same at the festival hafla in Palmerston North, and students in my weekly classes in New Plymouth.
I used to teach at Academy of Dance Taranaki (formerly Kate Lahood’s studio), but currently teach only at Synergy Studios, home of Platinum Dance:
Upstairs at 4 Powderham St, downtown New Plymouth
Please register before attending, no drop ins (see my faqs!)
